形容词（Adjective）是很多语言中均有的主要词类中的一种。形容词是描述人和事物特征，性质，属性或者状态的一种开放性词类，主要是用来修饰名词或者代词。
以-able, -ful, -al, -ish, -ous, -less, -ive, -y等后缀结尾的词，一般为形容词，例如: acceptable (可接受的), careful (小心的), medical (医学的), foolish (愚蠢的), famous (著名的), helpless (无助的), active (活跃的), healthy (健康的) 等等。
一、关于形容词的分类形容词大体可以分为以下几类：

在英语中大量的形容词都属于这一类，它们表示了人或者物的品质。例如：
He is honest, friendly and always ready to help others.
他诚实、友好、总是乐于助人。
He lives in Dalian, a beautiful city.
他住在大连，一座美丽的城市。
这类词比较常见的有：nice, simple, angry, lazy, quiet, sharp, reasonable, pleasant, noisy, tidy
02 -ing形容词
这一类形容词大多与及物动词有关，是它们的现在分词形式，通常表示主动意义。例如：
It's interesting that many people speak French in Canada.
有趣的是，在加拿大许多人讲法语。
The disease has spread at an alarming rate.
这种疾病以惊人的速度蔓延。
这类词比较常见的有：amazing, terrifying, thrilling, convincing, astonishing

03 -ed形容词
这一类形容词大多也同及物动词有关，是它们的过去分词形式，通常表示被动意义。例如：Every time the exam is over, I will be worried about the results.
每次考试结束后，我都会担心考试成绩。
We asked some people what annoyed them.
我们问了一些人是什么让他们烦恼的。
这类词比较常见的有：wasted, broken, infected, processed, required, abandoned
04 复合形容词
常见的比如“形容词＋名词-ed”“形容词＋现在分词”“副词＋过去分词 / 现在分词” “名词＋现在分词”“数词＋名词” 。例如：
warm-hearted 热心的
good-looking 好看的
well-known 著名的
second-hand 二手的
easy-going 随和的
hard-working 勤劳的
